DFS Welbeck Welfare 0 Dronfield Town 6

DFS Welbeck Welfare 0 Dronfield Town 6

Always a friendly welcome from Welbeck when I go to see them and today they played hosts to another friendly club Dronfield Town FC. After a nice cup of coffee and the taking of Welbeck Welfare's team pic, a two minutes silence was observed by all in the ground at Forest Town.

The game kicked off, with the away side forcing forward and getting themselves a early penalty, up stepped the spot taker and the Welbeck Keeper more than matched his shot with a excellent save. This seemed to install some belief in to pointless Welbeck who the took the game to their opponents and created chances of their own. With a surprise half time score of 0-0, was there to be a shock on the  cards?

Dronfield Town came out sharper in the Second Half, but after 50 minutes, the ball was played out to the Welfare right wing with 3 home players waiting in the middle of the box for him to pull the ball back for one of them, but he tried for glory and his effort hit the side netting and the chance had gone.

The next attack on 53 minutes belonged to the visitors and they took the lead, this seemed to put a spring in their step and spurred them forward and soon more goals followed at regular intervals. A highlight for Welbeck was when the home keeper saved his 2nd penalty of the game in the second half.

A couple of things from today:

Referee Harry Hawkins and his two Assistants Andy Dallison & Andy Bills were outstanding

DFS Welbeck Welfare: If they can play as well as they did in the First Half, all game then they will soon be picking up points, they just need that confidence.
Also they may well be playing back at Medan Vale on their old pitch very soon

Dronfield Town:  sit in joint 2nd place, 3 points behind League leaders Yorkshire Main with a game in hand. Their manager Craig Butler is doing a sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro from 1st Feb - 10th Feb in aid of floodlights for the club.
